Microsoft Xbox

The Xbox is a gaming console that is produced by Microsoft. It is one of the three consoles that currently dominates the market. Along with Sony and Nintendo virtually all games are designed to be played on these platforms. There is a lot to like about the Xbox which is a big part of the reason why it has been such a strong seller for the company.

The Xbox was first introduced by Microsoft in 2001 in an attempt to break into the lucrative video game market. This was part of an attempt to take market share away from Sony and Nintendo who until that time were the dominant players. Although they haven't exactly crushed their competitors like they do in most other fields Microsoft were able to get a fairly significant share of the market. In 2005 the the company upgraded to the Xbox 360 their second generation model.

There are a lot of things to like about the Xbox 360 the biggest is that all of the games are available in high definition. In addition you can use most of the old Xbox games in the new version which is something that can't be said about most of the other products in the market. Not surprisingly for a Microsoft project the communications and online gaming are excellent. There is actually quite a bit that you can do with an Xbox besides playing games. Probably the most important is that you can download and watch movies and television shows in addition to being able to download games. You do however need a subscription to be able to do this.

While there is a lot to like about the Xbox there are a few things that we don't like. The biggest of these is there is no wireless networking nor is there a flash media reader, these seem like odd oversights in this day and age. Oddly while the video quality for the games and the online content is excellent it is not very good when you use the DVD player. We would also like to see a bigger hard drive since it fills up very quickly. Other complaints are really just minor little quibbles like the fact that the fan is way too load and the power supply seems to be a lot bigger than it needs to be.

Overall we would have to say that the Microsoft Xbox is the best of the gaming consoles currently available. We are well aware that people have strong opinions on this subject and they tend to be very loyal to their brand but when you look at what the Xbox can do and how well it does all of those things it is hard to argue that it is not the best option currently on the market.
